I am single!
Wednesday, September 05, 2007
As a female who likes to go for walks -- I have begun to wonder... Men in cars have a tendency to honk horns, whistle, and cat-call young women walking down the side of the road. Why? I mean, what do they expect the woman to do... get in the car and give out blow jobs!?

As you may suspect, I was having a particularly bad day today, and decided that a quick jog might help to lift my mood. I made it around the block and into the neighborhood without interruption when - to my surprise - some guy literally ran out of his house and started chasing me down the street. He was repeatedly yelling "Are you single!?" Then he would pause for a moment, and then "HEY! I asked you if you are SINGLE!!"

After the fifth time he yelled this, I realized it was true love and passionately threw my clothes off my body.

Guys, the first thing to know is that women get sexually harassed ALL THE TIME. And if you haven't noticed this, it is because your puny unobservant brain doesn't realize that your presence is the only defense against this. Second, if you ever feel the need to whistle at a girl for walking to the grocery store, use some common sense. And some lube... jack off sometime.
Now, to the guy who yelled at me today:
Sorry, I am married, to a several large black men who dislike you.

Comments:
ahhhh if that wasn't so annoying, it would be really funny.

I feel sorry for the guy. How desperate must you be that you can rationalize chasing strange women around the block. I mean, I recall doing that sort of thing to classmates I had crushes on in 7th grade or so, but damn... grow up already.

those guys give us nice, sensitive, caring, non-harassing guys a bad name. What if some day I had a perfectly legitimate reason for running out of my front door and chasing a cute girl down the street? For example if she dropped her purse while jogging past my house? She'd be freaked the hell out, provided I was stupid enough to attempt getting her attention by asking if she was single.

On the other hand, there's a lot of shit played out by both sexes in the dating game -- I suppose if it doesn't involve rape or broken hearts, it's not so bad right?

The whistling/cat-calls from a car have puzzled me as well. I mean, who decided that these were prime means by which to attract a potential mate? Perhaps if we were apes and had few alternatives in terms of sounds, but as humans, I keep hoping for a bit more. Like the homeless dude who grabbed my arm and informed me that I was really cute, despite the fact that I didn't have a buck...I give him props for knowing "you're cute" is much better than a whistle.

Also, Google's apparently building a new campus up here. Not sure you'd want to leave CA, but apparently they're hiring.

Jackie! Did you tell the homeless guy you were single? What happened to you blog? Thanks for the job suggestion... will look into things soon.

Clay - I don't know any women that jog with purses, but if this did happen, "excuse me you dropped your purse" would probably more effective.

Ya know, he never asked. He made my day though, most people mutter less than friendly comments when I refuse to hand over cash, but this guy...he was a cool guy.
New blog is at http://jackie-in-seattle.blogspot.com
It's a little less....mean-spirited?...and mainly written for family and friends to keep tabs on what I'm up to. Notice that family is included on my prime audience, so there's some definite censoring in my writing, but it's still me.
Football at 10 am out here....very, very strange!

No, I don't have a facebook. This blog is my web presence, and if you want to reach me, it connects to my email.

Right now, I live in the bay area, but I tend to move around a lot. Staying in one place makes me so restless.
