SUMMER -- A season full of activity makes a column full of anecdotes

SoCal
The most story-worthy part of my road trip down to San Diego was the birthday party I went to in LA, where some people talked me into hitting on an ambiguously gay guy to help them determine his sexual orientation. As far as his friends knew, he had never had a girlfriend, or even talked about a girl before. But it was hard to tell if this was due to his sexual orientation, or due to his Caltech-PhD-nerdness. I did my best to find out. I bought him drinks, asked him about girls, pulled him into the other room so he'd dance with me. All of it was inconclusive. Not even my eagerness to talk about the gay pride festival scored me any info. Oh well. The last thing I remember that night was drunkenly running in and out of the waves on the beach, and I was quite happy.

Motocycling
I gave Ad's a try. The photo is pretty nice, huh?

Cold Fusion
My new field of study! I should have posted it a while ago, but for those of you who haven't heard from me in a few months, I started a job in Foster City studying the movie-version of my previous field of study. Twenty hours per week - with whatever schedule I like - is almost good enough to make up for the fact that my co-workers are insane and that cold fusion probably doesn't exist.

REI
Shannon and I camped out in front of the camping store the night before the store's extravagant grand opening celebration. I did it just to be ironic, but Shannon wanted to be the very first person in line (of about 400 people) because she needed to make a return. Somehow, she didn't see the humor in this situation. I guess she was dissatisfied with her product.

5 points for me.
The new 2005 Mustang has been my favorite new car this last year. I watch it fondly as it drives by me on the freeway, thinking that it will always be out of reach, like the hot boy in middle school who doesn't know you exist. So last weekend, a boy mentioned to me that he had rented a Mustang for the day, and I didn't even wait to be offered a ride before I threw on my shoes and pushed him out to the car. There's something satisfying about a little infatuation that comes true, and when we reached the top of Skyline, watching shooting stars out of the open convertible top was like sexy dessert at the end of my romantic middle school date. Oohlala.

Spy vs Spy
Shannon joined me for Gene's "Chill War" party last weekend, and we made these costumes of the Spy vs Spy characters from the old Mad cartoon. We stopped at Pizza My Heart on the way to party, to tip-toe around the place pretending to spy on each other and then chase each other out. It was such a hit, and will surely be a repeat performance.

numbing quart of milk: Your spy vs spy thing was pretty cool, but not as cool as the fact that WE SHOWED UP AT THE PARTY!!!!!!!!!!1one.

If renting a car doesn't work out for you, going to a dealer to test drive is a blast. Depending on what you're looking to get in, phrases like, "Father isn't concerned with cost, he just told me to pick out which model I like best," or for a BMW, "I'm not worried about paying extra as long as the service is there" can make your experience particularly enjoyable. Make sure you have a story of some sort half planned out ahead of time in case they grill you, but that's been my method for test-driving cars I want but won't be able to afford in my lifetime.

No, I don't have a facebook. This blog is my web presence, and if you want to reach me, it connects to my email.

Right now, I live in the bay area, but I tend to move around a lot. Staying in one place makes me so restless.
