Family Dinner II

A second type of dinner conversation is when my mom rants. She has a small number of rants that repeat regularly over the course of years. If you have dinner with my family, you you will definitely hear about at least one of
- Walmart's delicious $2 wine
- The knife she bought in Japan (followed by her forcing you to cut things with the knife to experience the sharpness)
- Or my favorite, the kinds of rice she owns.
(My mom talks really loud, and with a Chinese accent.)
[friend enters the kitchen]I've never asked how it's related to being Chinese. But she gets very excited about it.
Mom: HI LAURA'S FRIEND! DID YOU KNOW, WE HAVE 4 KIND OF RICE!
Friend: [confused] Uh, no I didn't.
Mom: WE HAVE 4 KIND OF RICE!! [pauses for this amazing fact to sink in] IT BECAUSE WE ARE CHINESE.
Friend: [nods uncertainly]
Mom: [counting on her fingers to emphasize] We have jasmine rice... brown rice... basmati rice... uh... sticky rice... OH!! WE HAVE MEXICAN RICE!!!!!! WE HAVE 5 KIND OF RICE!!!! BECAUSE WE ARE CHINESE!!!
